Does your child have crooked, crowded, or misaligned teeth? Have you ever been told your child has an underbite, overbite, or crossbite? As a parent, you are probably concerned about your child’s orthodontic care and the costs involved for treatment. A child may deal with low self-esteem and embarrassment directly related to crooked or oddly spaced teeth. Orthodontic treatment can help, and your child may be an ideal candidate.
When orthodontic treatment is provided at a younger stage, while teeth and jaws are still developing, the treatment can often be accomplished with less invasive procedures. If orthodontic care is deferred until after permanent teeth have fully grown and settled, issues could worsen and the treatment involved could be more extensive, time consuming, and costly. At Hada Family Dental, we pride ourselves on offering excellent, practical family dentistry, as well as providing cosmetic dentistry options for children and teenagers in need of orthodontic care.

How Many Phases Should You Plan For?
The American Association of Orthodontics recommends that parents should have their child’s teeth examined by an orthodontist at age seven. The sooner issues can be addressed, the better your child’s chances of avoiding orthodontic care later on in life. Orthodontics is often provided in two phases. During the first phase, Dr. Hada will:
- Address bite issues (underbite, crossbite, overbite)
- Detect and intercept any tooth and jaw developmental issues
- Prevent further tooth and jaw problems from developing
- Address damaging oral habits and demonstrate healthy oral hygiene
- Correct the beginning stages of misalignment and prepare the jawbone for permanent teeth
- Begin moving permanent teeth into a more favorable position
During the second phase, Dr. Hada will use orthodontic treatment to:
- Align permanent teeth into final positions
- Enhance dental function
- Establish a healthy bite
- Improve your child’s appearance
The treatment plan will depend on your child’s needs. Dr. Hada will keep x-rays and thorough records throughout every step of the journey. In some cases, Dr. Hada may encourage a break between phases one and two, in order to allow a child’s jaw and permanent teeth to develop and settle.
Treatments We Provide
At Hada Family Dental, we provide both traditional braces and Invisalign® Teen for your child’s orthodontic care. With traditional braces, tooth-mounted brackets and wires will create tension in order to guide and realign your child’s teeth. Your child may benefit from traditional braces in both phase one and phase two.
If your child or teenager is suffering from cosmetic misalignment instead of occlusion problems, he or she may be eligible for Invisalign® Teen trays. These trays offer all of the same benefits of Invisalign®, but include blue dots that fade as each tray is worn, carefully monitoring your child’s treatment. You will be able to carefully monitor your child’s treatment. If the blue dot remains, you will know whether or not your child has continually worn their tray.
